Cooper Thayer (AKA Coop) is an 8 year old student at Westwood Elementary in Portland, MI. Best described, Coop is everybody’s friend, funny, charismatic and most of all, positive.
Cooper’s positive outlook has helped him take on many challenges, including the biggest one, learning how to read. He realized lots of his friends were excelling in reading while he was falling behind. Through having his hearing and eyesight corrected he had big hopes that he soon would be reading too!
Unfortunately, Coop’s struggle was not going away and was only getting harder. The concern of a learning disorder had surfaced and after being evaluated, Cooper was diagnosed with Mixed Dyslexia.
Cooper is dyslexic in the areas of auditorial, visual and phonological. Like many dyslexic children, Coop was relieved to find out this challenge wasn’t his fault. In fact, Cooper said being dyslexic is going to help make his dreams come true! Along with learning how to read, Coop also has dreams of designing his own clothing line and wants to be able to help children that suffer from learning disabilities “like him”.
In typical Coop style, he’s doing it and making those dreams a reality! Cooper personally designed his “Cool Like DYS” Cool Cat logo and teamed up with the Fabricated Customs team to pull together his apparel line. For every piece sold, we will be donating a percentage to the Turning Pages organization out of Grand Rapids, MI. Turning Pages is a non-profit organization that provides one-on-one tutoring for children and adults in reading, writing and spelling. Please join Cooper to support and encourage this community. You can make a difference by joining Cooper in drawing more awareness and encouragement to this community!
